The Series

The Walls of Covenant tells the story of five remarkable teenagers living in the last city in the world. Book I: The Raising of the Troupe is the first installment in their epic journey of friendship, family, treachery, triumph, grief, philosophic exploration, spirituality, hope, tragedy, division, love, rebirth, and war.

The Characters

Conata the Fatherless—found buried in a box in an abandoned city, the fiery and willful Conata is raised by the Priests of Fortunatus in their sterile Temple. When she finally rebels, she’s sent to join the Druids—an Order that uses Energy from the miraculous Hearthstone to alter and commune with plants and animals.

Syndra the Crusader—her young mother dies in childbirth; her elderly father retreats into his tower and disappears. Left to herself in a mansion filled with servants sworn to obey her, Syndra discovers her destiny in her family’s library: to become a Knight!

Teli the Destroyer—a diminutive and outwardly un-barbaric Barbarian, Teli is open-hearted, fearless, deeply eccentric, and bottomlessly curious—qualities which lead his increasingly fanatical people to disown him. More than anything, Teli desires to see a live Devourer—one of the titanic monsters that have destroyed the world outside the Final Wall.

Rutiger the Resplendrical—an absent-minded and profoundly introverted man-boy whose Merchant-Engineer family is obsessed with building Energy-powered machines, Rutiger Snaaps is a genius whose potentialities (both mechanical and personal) are waiting to be awakened.

Ralen the Deceiver—brutalized both physically and mentally by the Proteors (who use Energy to move objects with their minds), Ralen Vyndali is haunted by feelings of inferiority and self-hatred. When the visionary madman Laudius recruits the five youths to take part in his “experimental school,” her Order sends her to infiltrate and—if need be—betray him and her newfound friends.
